Fabrice Hyber unveiled two monumental murals at Shanghai Lujiazui metro station

French artist Fabrice Hyber unveiled on November 8th two monumental murals, “La forêt” and “L’amitié” at Shanghai Lujiazui metro station. Created upon invitation by the Power Station of Art, Shanghai Metro, and the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain, with the strong support of the French Institute and of the Consulate General of France in Shanghai , this project celebrates the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between France and China.

Already familiar with ceramics, the artist created these works in Jingdezhen, the Chinese ceramic city, and especially developed a new technique for painting and glazing porcelain. Hyber claims that : “I see an analogy between my wanderings under the trees of my forest in Vendée, and the underground movements in the corridors of the Shanghai metro. Both landscapes are constructions, whether that of the underground city or of a forest. We all construct our landscape, and it is wonderful to watch it evolve. Many questions arise when contemplating it. How can we bring the organic aspect of plants back into the city? Are tree roots and city networks similar?”.

“La forêt” and “L’amitié” can be admired permanently at exit 7 of Lujiazui station (Lines 2 and 14), and are part of the Power Station of Art collection.
