On November 28-29, 2015, the prestigious Fu Lei Award Ceremony, organized by the Embassy of France in China, successfully took place in the beautiful setting of Maison Hermès. MB Projects is very proud to have advised Hermès China on this project and to have been instrumental in bringing this prestigious event to Shanghai for the first time.

The full weekend of November 28-29, 2015 was dedicated to French books, literature, and translations at Maison Hermès in Shanghai. For the very first time in its 7-year-long history, the prestigious Fu Lei Award Ceremony took place in Shanghai, the birth city of M. Fu Lei (1908-1966), a famous and influential translator of French literature who translated Balzac, Romain Rolland, Voltaire, etc.

The events included the Jury deliberation and Award Ceremony on November 28th, and was followed by two literary conferences on November 29th, where French and Chinese authors dialogued on the topics “Family, transmission, inspiration”, and “Is there a Francophile literature in China?” Guest speakers included French authors Marie Nimier and Philippe Torreton, and Chinese writers Wang Anyi, Sun Ganlu, and Chen Sihe.

Created in 2009 by the French Embassy in China, the Fu Lei Award rewards every year the best translations from French into Chinese in three categories: literature, human sciences, and “young talent”. This year, the winning translators and their publishing houses are:
1/ Literature: Le liseur du 6h27 by Jean-Paul Didierlaurent, translated by Zhou Xiaoshan, published by Beijing Imaginist Time Culture Co., Ltd / Guangxi Normal University Press;
2/ Human Sciences: La preuve par la Chine: la « Description » de J.-B. Du Halde, jésuite, 1735 by Isabelle Landry-Deron, translated by Xu Minglong, published by The Commercial Press (Shanghai);
3/ Young talent: La querelle de l’art contemporain by Marc Jimenez, translated by Wang Mingnan, published by Peking University Press.
